Uruguayan Customs Office is finishing all details to reach the deadline October 2011 to implement the electronic seal, a new device for in transit merchandise, accomplishing its new strategy of prevention, surveillance and facilitation of commerce.
This first step includes only full containers and international land transportation, trying to reach in the near future all the vehicles with cargos in transit. For this new procedure customs is developing new regulation, requirements and ways of surveillance.
This procedure not only brings more security to the supply chain management because every vehicle would have GPS and if anything happens customs personnel would go to the truck to verify situation, but also improving times at the customs office for the transport companies, developing more benefits to the exporters and the importers reducing times involved.
