Uruguay won first place as the best Free Trade Zone of the Americas 2011 that for the very first time was awarded at the end of the XV Latinamerican Free Trade Zone Conference.
"This award recognizes the good labor that Free Trade Zones do in their countries, through innovation, logistic facilitation, infraestructure, employment, technology transference, all items that any investor looks for to set up a new business" states a communication from the Exporters Association of Guatemala (Agexport).
The distinction was disputed by PIISA Industrial Park from Dominican Republic; Pacific Free Trade Zone and Bogotá Free Trade Zone from Colombia; Manaus Free Trade Zone from Brasil and Zonamerica from Uruguay.
Second place was awarded to Pacific Free Trade Zone from Colombia, and third to Manaus Free Trade Zone from Brasil.
Members of the jury for this event were Will Berry, President of the North American Free Trade Zone Association; José Luis Rodríguez, President of the Free trade Zone Associtation of Spain; and Jaime Granados, Specialist from the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB).
