transit
Uruguayan legislation consider certain 'non-customs'
territories inside our national political territory which have been
granted a special customs status, where all kind of commercial,
industrial or service oriented activities are exempted of all national,
municipal, customs or import taxes.
In these
particular areas it's possible to bring goods of foreign origin (by air,
ocean or land), process them (fraction, select, classify, assemble,
repair, sell, etc) and then re-export them to their final destination
without taxes and with fiscal benefits for
Users.
When sending goods to a FTZ, no import taxes
or duties should be paid unless finally goods are nationalized and
cleared into Uruguay territory. In case these goods are exported to a
third country, those taxes will not be paid
either.
Furthermore, Uruguay's institutional
stability which has been tested during the economical crisis (2002-2003)
and a very thorough handling of macro-economy and public accounts, have
been praised by various multilateral credit
organizations.
It's also important to mention that
the educational and intellectual level of its population are the basic
foundation of the country's social pointers. The people is the country's
main asset, sons and grandsons of European
immigrants.
Some of the basic social characteristics
of the Uruguayan society: 75 % of the young population between 12
& 17 years are in high school, 95% of the children between 4
& 5 years old are in preschool, alphabetization level reaches
97% of the population, one from each three workers (either service
providers or involved in goods production) has technical or university
degrees
